through the eye of the Holga

These photos struck my fancy. They're interesting and unassuming. They're taken by a toy camera called a Holga. Apparently there are many folks who fell in love with the light leaks and discolorations. I'd love to get my hands on one of these toy cameras and see what the world looks like through one of Holga's lenses.

Kell's & St. Patricks

I should mention that we also went to Kell's (same day as Marrakesh, hence our irish adornments). Good Guinness. Good Friends. Good Irish Times.

A little piece of Morocco

Marrakesh: 2nd & Battery, Seattle.

8:15 reservations for 11 people, 2 birthdays
8:30 belly dancers
8:30 11 Royale Feast Dinners....

This restaurant was fantastic. The moment we stepped in the door we no longer expected anything familiar. It was such a great chance to try something a little different. The tables were low with cushions or a couch along the wall. Our hands were all washed above the table with water pooling onto our dinner surface. We received a course of soup and salad, all to be eaten by sipping from bowls or with your hands. We then got the main course of our dinner all family style, again to be eaten with your hands, with dishes ranging from Lamb with Eggplant to Chicken Honey & Prunes. Each dish was succulent & exciting. Our dinner was finished up with an apple dessert and Mint tea.

The atmosphere is great for group dinners. The service is friendly. We look forward to visiting soon.

What is CSA?

CSA - Community Supported Agriculture.

This is a way to create a relationship with a local farm and receive produce weekly or bi-weekly from this farm. The structure varies from farm to farm, but generally you will be a "member" or "subscriber" and will either pay for a season in advance (most likely) or have weekly/bi-weekly payments. In return, you will receive a box of produce (your choice in size).

This is a great chance to get familiar with local roots and what is really available to us at different times of the year. It's also a great opportunity to cook seasonally. Many participating farms will offer tours, classes, and other gatherings.

Each farm has a host of locations and you can find your nearest farms and pick-up locations, along with some additional information on CSA's, by following this site:

We recently signed up at Full Circle Farm in Carnation, WA and are looking forward to our first box :) Can't wait for spring asparagus and summer berries!

Well, I'm pleased to say that I'm back online.

But it's been such a long day that this is all I can leave you with.

More soon.....

Need internet...

So, it's become quite obvious that I need to invest in internet at home instead of depending on the apartment complex to handle that. I apologize for my lack of posts, but I'll fix that asap.

I've been reading "Fields of Plenty" these last couple of weeks. It's given me a little better perspective on the current state of agriculture in our nation. I'm looking forward to reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "A Botany of Desire" in the coming week.

I've also got a few more food experiments to fill you in on :)

** I'm starting a "Week in Advance" calendar with fun events in the Seattle area. Expected to launch next Sunday. **

As you can see, I have a lot to catch up on. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
